Foreigners’ credit card spending in Korea up 32%

A new report shows credit card spending byforeigners in Korea last year jumped 32 percent.

thanks to more spending by visitors from China.

According to the Korea Culture and TourismInstitute, total card purchases by non-residents came to 13-point-7 trillion won.

Chinese visitors accounted for about 60 percentof that spending,.

and, including China, 84 percent of it was spentby visitors from countries in Asia.

The institute found that more than half ofcard spending by Asian tourists was on shopping, while the biggest spending by those from Europeor the Americans was on accommodation.

Last year Chinese tourist numbers jumped bymore than a third.
